Positively speaking, I can say that Malaysian’s involvement in the growth of web applications is very promising with more and more services are offered for local as well as international visitors. Although some of them are just another ‘local’ version of the original version, that does not matter as long as it can serve the user well. Of course, legal issue is another matter - depends on the website owner whether they got the permission to localized the original version or not especially if they are using almost the same design or layout as the original one.
Here are some of Malaysian’s web application services grouped into their service
Advertising

Nuffnang
This company is Asia’s first advertising company based in Malaysia. Basically, it offers bloggers the oppurtunity to earn money by putting ads on their blogs. This service is a good alternative for Google Adsense and Text Links Ad because we dont have to deal with too much hassles in getting our earning - and the payment is made in Ringgit Malaysia. Currently, they are spreading their service to Singapore too. However, most of opinions I’ve read around the local bloggosphere said that Nuffnang ads consume a lot of page load causing a very slow load on their blogs. This is not good for high traffic blogs. Maybe they want to do something about it before more and more bloggers started to take out Nuffnang ads from their blogs.

Advertlets
Advertlets also another advertising network that offers the same service as Nuffnang. However, their web2.0 interface looks much more promising than their closest competitor. Plus, their AJAX poll+ ads attract much more bloggers and advertisers to register with Advertlets. Same with Nuffnang, the are currently offering their service for Singporean bloggers. Auction

Ebay.com.my
Ebay.com is already a huge name in online auction service. Malaysian version of Ebay is established in order to provide a better service for local users. With bidders and seller from local scenes, it provides a more secure way for us to join auction on Ebay. well, hope so. Anyone has any experience in online auction in Ebay.com.my?

Lelong.com.my
Competing with Ebay.com.my, Lelong is another auction site for Malaysian users. As far as I know, Lelong exist earlier than Ebay.com.my. It also provides a platform for bidders and sellers to perform any online business and transaction. But personally I dont like their messy interface.

Tumpang.com.my
Compare to above auction services, Tumpang has a different approach. It is not actually an online auction. Taken from their website - ” Tumpang helps you save by letting you buy in bulk. If a mobile phone costs RM 900, 10 units of the same may cost only RM 800. Tumpang facilitates this bulk buy letting you “tumpang” an item with other Tumpang users. In short, you Gather, Buy and Save! ”
Online video

ManggaTV
I read about this via mohdismail.com. ManggaTV can be said as a Malaysian version of Youtube. Well, the design looks almost the same as the original YouTube website. It allows users to upload and share their videos online, just like how YouTube have been serving internet users all this while. I havent register with them so I dont have the overall picture yet. But hey, they take a very high risk with this service. YouTube has been sued several times due to copyright infringement when users uploaded copyrighted videos. Will ManggaTV experience the same thing? and if they do, can they handle it?

Explore.com.my
As the tagline goes, this place act as a platform where you can upload your video or music file to be viewed by other users. They focus on the word ‘talent’ to distinguish them from other online video services especially YouTube. Well, self promoting is the new reality shows isn’t it? This site is still new I guess, not much content yet.

Blinklist
Developed by MindValley, Blinklist is a social bookmarking service, inline with those del.icio.us, digg, and many more. For those who are familiar with social bookmarking service, they should’ve heard about Blinklist. It also has been listed in top 10 social bookmarking sites . Registered users will be given a button to be placed on their browser so they can easily bookmark their favourite website for further references. Then they can access the list from any computer with internet access, anytime.

Digg.com.my
As far as I know, this local version of Digg has nothing to do with Digg.com. It is stated in the website that it has no intention to compete with Digg.com . But they are using the same logo, so.. i dont know. Even the word digg, dugg and bla bla are copyrighted by Digg.com. hurm. well. If you are a Digger, you know what this service offers. User can submit a link/story to Digg, then other users can help to popularize the story by digging the story. The more digg the story get, the more popular the story is.This is another way to drive more traffic to your website actually. However, I can see Digg.com.my is not active at all. Maybe Malaysian dont really like to digg.

For digg.com.my, in my opinion, is a shame. I honor their attempt, but please be original and not being a complete copycat.

06 Feb 08 | 6:36 pmso what if we copycat? u think everything u wrote or buy or do is original? so u think american invent everything? if the answer is no then STFU
u are one of the people in malaysia that hold the knowledge down. asal ada orang lain nak buat je nak pandang rendah. hek eleh.
08 Feb 08 | 12:56 pm@Comel, why are you hiding behind the bushes to the extend you dont even want people to know your proper ID in this comment?
I think you need to take a deep breath and listen to me for a while.
THERE IS A BIG GAP BETWEEN BEING A COPYCAT and AN INVENTOR.
I still remember what my lecturer (architecture) told me - something much like this: “People steal from each other (idea, he meant). The only thing that differentiate a thief from an inventor is an inventor use a bunch of ideas and make them as one (which usually create an awesome outcome). A thief, on contrary, use pure form of the original singular idea, and make it as his.”
Now, back to the website I loathed, which suits it better? An inventor, or a thief?
You know the answer. Its like comparing blogtitude.com (I salute you guys) to that respective website.
Thank you.
