Pownce.com, a new project by my all time idol (geek category) ,Kevin Rose. Although he drinks a lot in the Diggnation podcasts, I dont really care. What I care about is, this guy always come out with great ideas. After Digg and Revision3, now its Pownce.
What is Pownce? “Pownce is a way to send messages, files, links, and events to your friends. You’ll create a network of the people you know and then you can share stuff with all of them, just a few of them, or even just one other person really fast.” Thats what they say. Check out some pownce profiles to get a better visual understanding on how it works. However, for the time being, registration is by invitation only. So go and put your email now. I am soo glad they did not put the word BETA next to the logo.
“You know, its web2.0 and we should put a BETA word inside a flash sign although its not Beta at all” - sarcasm.
Okay. This is what I think about this stuff. I haven’t get my account so this is my first thought when I browse around.
It is not something very practical - at least not for everyone, yet. You see, its like a combination of Twitter and mini blog with a little add on service to share stuff. Again, I havent registered so I dont know the whole dashboard features and functions. But the interface is designed specially for those links sharing and stuff; and thats a cool thing.
“Pownce is brought to you by a bunch of geeks who were frustrated trying to send stuff from one cube to another.” Cube. Sounds like a working environment to me. “Kevin and friends” says my friend, Uways, when we were talking about this.
Hey, I live in a hostel where most of the students have 24/7 internet connectivity. That sounds perfect for a Pownce environment. Yay! But.. wait, I think its only me who are geeky enough to play with this stuff. So, plan canceled. Lets stick to YM or GTalk.
Pownce also come with a dekstop application to make sharing links, files, event and sending message a lot easier - from your desktop; without a browser. And it looks cool also 
They are using the Adobe AIR for the application which in my opinion is very cool to make an attractive looking apps. Check out Digg’s API contest, you can see some of the contestants use this AIR stuff and its awesome. (no, the winner is not a cool apps, check others)
Well, talking about this desktop apps, maybe you want to check out Tubes. A desktop apps for sharing file on a network - even if you were offline. sounds cool. Kevin used to mention about this Tubes on his podcast.
However, Kevin Rose is still my all time idol (again, geek category) Watch Diggnation and you’ll get what I mean.

so do you have any invitation for pownce? kalau ada jangan lupa bagi aku satu ya! tengkiyu. i think the webby looks great, i like it. but to actually design one is just not my type. kalau kau faham la. kira macam boleh tengok tapi tak mahu buat hehehehe

Once it took almost 50 secs to load the file, a refresh took around 10 secs for that file alone.
Do grab Firebug for Firefox and see the loading time under the net tab.

i do have firebug, i use it a lot for CSS stuff. n i dont really care bout loading thing. i use the Net tab to download .flv and .mp3 files ehe.
sori bout the loading time. i need to put that leaderboard ad up there, until the campaign is over.
