Ever thought that Microsoft Powerpoint can be a quite decent graphic software? Well, that is what I discovered few days ago. Of course it is not as great as Adobe Photoshop and Fireworks, but it can produce something similar with very little effort. And oh yeah,its only with Powerpoint 2007.
Let me tell you that you can create the following in just a few mouse clicks - maybe much faster than the time needed to create them in your current graphic software. By the way, this is not actually a tutorial - maybe some tips for you.
Only basic rounded corner, text and ordinary picture is used up there. No need to have 3D skills and extra imagination. =D
Let me show you how.
First of all, choose whether you want to use shapes or playing with text. For a new user of Office 2007, it is normal to feel a bit weird to work on this version office because almost everything is different compared to Office 2003. So, play around first.
For this example, lets work on a shape. When you draw a shape, an extra tab ‘Format’ will appear on top. Click it to look through some cool options for your shape.
Browse through the collection of style and fills available for you shape.
As you can see, commonly used shiny shape can be easily created here. You can just hover on any options and the shape will change automatically. Screw my PNG shiny shapes.
Then, play around with the shape effects to get more option for you shape.
Can you imagine, the whole tutorial on the internet is teaching how to create that reflection thing. Now, with one click of a button in Powerpoint, you are done. Other options are shadow, bevel, 3D rotation and Preset.
Same goes with the text styles and effects. For pictures/photos, you can easily create a polaroid or realistic looking photos, or change the shape into star, heart or any other without having to know about Masking technique. cool 
I am not going to explain everything because the options are straight forward. Less than 5 minutes, you can come out with cool shapes to integrate it with you other design in Photoshop or Fireworks. By the way, if you copy the shapes into other application, the effects is still there. But, yeah, it is in JPG format - not editable in other software of course.
But hey, next time, MS Powerpoint will be sitting next to your graphic software as a little helper. Who knows
