Gaming-focused tech giant Razer has announced a partnership with Web3-powered service World to debut Razer ID verified by World ID, a new technology to verify authentic human players.
Through this partnership, gamers will be able to opt-in to use World’s ‘proof of human’ verification within Razer’s existing single-sign on (SSO) account, for use across its services and software.
In a statement, World have expressed that this partnership will “reduce the negative impact of bots on gaming and improve the in-game experience for verified humans.”
The first game to utilise Razer ID verified by World ID will be TOKYO BEAST, a futuristic Web3 mobile combat game built on Immutable that’s set to debut in Q2 2025.
What is World?
Formerly known as Worldcoin, World is a technology company that uses iris-scanning hardware in conjunction with blockchain technology to provide ‘proof of humanity’ verification services.
Founded by OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman in 2019, the service entered beta in July 2023. Users can visit physical iris-scanning devices in locations around the world to obtain ‘proof of humanity’ and earn $WLD tokens. By downloading the World App – powered by it’s own native World Chain – users can earn further $WLD tokens over time, and can use the service alongside select partners for additional incentives.
This partnership with Razer marks World’s first major partnership with a big-name technology company, and the first tentative steps in the mainstream use of ‘proof of humanity’ technology.
What impact will Razer ID verified by World ID have?
Top personnel from both Razer and World are excited about the potential this partnership could hold for ensuring safe, authentic and fair gameplay environments.
Choo Wei-Pin, CCO at Razer, stated that Razer ID verified by World ID “allows game developers to seamlessly implement player verification features,” declaring that it will assist in their mission to “[preserve] the soul of competitive play.”
Fabian Bodensteiner, Managing Director of the World Foundation, added that this partnership is “a big milestone… for the whole gaming industry,” and that they “are building technology for the next era of gaming.”
Razer ID verified by World ID is set to debut upon the launch of TOKYO BEAST, which is scheduled for Q2 2025.
