Web3 arena fighter Moonray has announced that it will launch on Xbox Series X/S in 2025, following their December 2024 announcement that a PlayStation 5 release is on the way.

Expanding beyond availability through the Epic Games Store on PC to the console market, Moonray becomes the latest title to reveal a release on this latest generation of hardware – following the likes of Off The Grid and The Machines Arena.

Alongside news of an upcoming console release, Moonray Studios also confirmed that an auto-battler for mobile is in development, with a launch date to be revealed soon.

      What is Moonray?

Moonray is a 3D hack-and-slash arena fighter, built on Base, and currently available on PC – with Xbox Series X/S and PS5 support to arrive in 2025.

Developed by Moonray Studios, the game was originally built as a metaverse title with arena fighting elements. Moonray has now refocused fully on the latter, with players building their characters and picking from a variety of weapons to take down their opponents in thrilling PvP combat.

Moonray has both team-based and solo play modes, with leaderboards to track the world’s top players. The game has invested heavily into its lore, with a hardcover novel written by Eisner-winning author Brandon Graham and with art from famed fantasy artist Xurxo G Penalta.

Players can purchase Moonray Foundation NFTs, released in 2022, to receive a variety of benefits within the Moonray game – including bonuses in the soon-to-launch play-to-airdrop phase.

What impact could Moonray have on consoles?

The team behind Moonray is excited about heading into the console market.

“We are beyond thrilled to show the world just how far web3 gaming can go, and this is just the beginning,” said Hans Andersson, co-founder and Chief Business Officer at Moonray Studios. “As one of the first Web3 games to make its way to consoles, this is a monumental step for us and a testament to the quality of our project.”

Moonray Studios have yet to announce a launch date for their upcoming Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 5 releases, though the team has confirmed that the ports are underway. We expect a playtest to arrive in the second half of 2025 – and if these tests go well, we could see a full console release before the end of the year.
