Nexon will officially launch MapleStory N, the first blockchain-based entry in its long-running gaming franchise, on May 15. Developed by NEXPACE, the game introduces on-chain functionality to the classic 2D side-scrolling MMORPG format.
The game will run on Henesys, a dedicated Layer 1 network built on Avalanche, and marks the first official title under the broader MapleStory Universe (MSU) initiative.
This launch also serves as a starting point for a series of planned interoperable projects under the MapleStory Universe ecosystem, spanning PC, mobile, and creator-driven tools.

What to expect at launch?
At its core, MapleStory N retains the 2D side-scrolling gameplay familiar to long-time fans of the franchise. What sets it apart is its use of blockchain technology to facilitate player ownership of in-game assets. Players will be able to mint, trade, and store items using a system designed to remove gas fees through the Avalanche-powered Henesys network.
The game includes a dual-token system:
- NXPC: A fixed-supply token used primarily for issuing and upgrading digital assets.
- NESO: An in-game currency earned through regular play, which can be used to create NFTs within the game.
Security systems adapted from Nexon’s previous titles are included to help detect cheating and protect the in-game economy.
MapleStory N also introduces Synergy Apps, tools that allow users to contribute game content and receive ecosystem rewards. During testing, the game maintained a user retention rate between 47% and 54%—a relatively high figure in the online gaming space.

What’s next for MapleStory N?
MapleStory N is part of a larger framework of the MapleStory Universe, a multi-title initiative focused on blockchain-integrated gameplay. Alongside the PC game, future components include:
- MapleStory N Mobile: A mobile adaptation offering cross-platform play.
- MapleStory N Worlds: A sandbox creation platform for player-generated content.
- MapleStory N SDK: Development tools for third-party creators to build MapleStory-themed experiences.
Whilst no firm release dates have been announced for the other components, the company has indicated that it will continue expanding the ecosystem following the launch of MapleStory N.
