CCP Games is launching a public game trial for its blockchain-powered Eve Online spinoff—Eve Frontier—for 10 days starting Friday, April 11.
Running until 21 April, this public trial marks the first time that the title will be available beyond early access backers. Previously, only players who purchased a Founders Access pass were able to play.
The free trial will coincide with the start of a new development phase, during which significant gameplay features are expected to be added or tested.

What to expect from the game trial?
The 10-day trial allows players to access Eve Frontier without a Founders Access pass, which previously ranged from $30 to $90. Those passes granted continuous access to early testing phases as well as in-game perks. Whilst trial participants will not receive these benefits, they will be able to experience the core gameplay.
Players will explore a universe designed to be inherently dangerous. According to CCP Games CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, the environment is meant to challenge players constantly, with survival itself a central gameplay loop.
The trial also coincides with the start of the game’s third testing phase—a 60-day period during which developers typically introduce new gameplay or economic features for evaluation.

What’s next for Eve Frontier?
Whilst a full release date has yet to be confirmed, CCP continues to expand the scope of Eve Frontier ahead of a broader launch.
The studio recently hired a former economist from the Central Bank of Iceland to oversee the in-game economy, a move that suggests a serious focus on building a complex, player-driven market system.
Whether the game will attract the same dedicated following as Eve Online remains to be seen, but for now, the trial offers a chance for newcomers and veterans alike to get a first look at CCP’s blockchain ambitions.
